A brief description of SQA-9000
Fire Arresting Block
The sheathing and insulation of cables are usually made from polymer materials such as plastic and rubber. With the use of cables increasing, fires are very likely to occur, especially in places where cables are densely laid. Such places include crowded high-rises, super high-rises, and public places of entertainment, as well as facilities of power and post and telecommunications, railroad systems, large plants and mines, and underground buildings. Once a fire occurs, it will spread along cables and extend fiercely to make extinguishing very difficult, resulting in heavy losses and casualties. According to statistics, over 2/3 of the fires that happen in cities are caused by electric equipment faults, overloaded cables, cable deterioration, or short-circuit. In such cases cables catch fire first and encourage the fire to spread. Therefore, effective precautions must be taken to reduce losses brought by fire. One of the precautions is fire blocking, which can effectively stop fire from spreading and gain more time for fire fighting.
At present fire arresting bags are the common product for fire blocking. Although this product has been found fairly effective through many years' extensive use, it still has a lot of shortcomings, some of them are fatal ones. The main weak points are: (1) Short service life. It is liable to become mildewy and rotten. Chemicals in a broken bag will run out, causing the blocking wall to collapse and thus making the fire blocking structure out of function. This will give rise to a new hidden trouble. (2) The fire arresting bag cannot resist the attack of mice. After gnawed by mice, the bag will become broken and chemicals inside will run out, causing the blocking wall to collapse. (3) The bag is made from cloth and, therefore, is liable to cave in and difficult to pile up in a neat manner. (4) The cloth bag's strength will decrease in a fire and itself will break. Under the blast pressure of the fire, the anti-activator in the bag is apt to run out and the bag loses its fire arresting function. (5) The high temperature resistance limit of the bag is 180 minutes, and the temperature at the back-of-fire side is usually about 160 ~ 200°C . Excessive temperature will give rise to indirect hidden troubles. (6) The fire arresting bag is not moistureproof and waterproof, and is liable to rot, which has been one of the knotty problems of hidden troubles in fire control. A satisfactory solution for this problem has not yet been found in our country due to the restrictions on raw materials and formulation.
The new generation of fire arresting product “SQA-9000 Fire Arresting Block” has been developed, which is aimed at solving that problem.
The fire arresting block is made from inorganic polymer materials through chemical reactions. It is non-toxic and environment-friendly. It has the following features: expanding in fire, soaking-resistant, excellent workability, high pressure strength, good ductility, not collapsing, superior heat isolation performance, and long service life. The fire arresting block is an ideal substitute for the fire arresting bag.
